✪ Coral Sea History ✪
October 17, 1955 - Captain William E. Gentner Jr. assumes command of the USS Coral Sea.
October 17, 1965 - USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) sailed for home with a 973-foot homeward bound pennant trailing astern, reflecting the longest deployment made by a carrier since World War II.
October 17, 1983 - USS Coral Sea begins a 15-month complex overhaul involving repairs and alterations to the ship at Norfolk, Va. Navy Yard. Included in the package were all of the equipment required to operate F/A-18 Hornets.
Membership to the USS CORAL SEA CVA-43 ASSOCIATION is open to all Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force personnel who served aboard the ship USS CORAL SEA (CV/CVB/CVA-43).
